Grand National Tips 2010 (11)

Less than a week to go now till Grand National 2010!

Lots of the potential Grand National Runners are being backed this weekend with money coming in for last year’s winner Mon Mome, 2008 Becher Chase winner Black Apalachi and Irish raider Whinstone Boy.

Paul Nicholls’ Big Fella Thanks remains the 7/1 favourite for the Grand National with the majority of firms including Grand National 2010 with Ladbrokes.

However, the most significant gamble looks to be on the JP McManus owned Dont Push It who AP McCoy has stated he is leaning towards as his mount in the Grand National. The majority of firms appeared to have laid the horse over the last couple of days although you can still get 33/1 with Grand National 2010 with Paddy Power.

Please use this thread now for all your thoughts and tips on the Grand National 2010.

    Course Aintree (Grand National)
    Next Race Thursday 8th April
Report Date Thursday 8th April; 8:00 am
Going Soft (Good to Soft in places)

So we’re still in the land of the soft..but will tighten up I feel over next 48 hours to have a ground that will give most a fighting chance :)

  2. Brody says:

Wow Nina Carberry on Character Building, great booking imo always been a big fan of hers. Shame for Codd though.

  3. Volty says:

Looks like top40 stand their ground, no withdrawls!

  4. Croat Goat says:

thats expected….Silver Birch first reserve as confirmed at 10.20

  5. whitearab says:

As far as Big Bucks goes, I will repeat what I said on this Blog before Cheltenham and that is he won’t los a race over hurdles again until he either gets too old – or more likley goes chasing. I am also in the camp that says he will prove to be the very best staying hurdler of recent generations and be better than both Denman and Kauto Star. If you can get a bet on him winning by under 4 lengths or so, as a number of us did at Cheltenham and got 9/4 about him, that is worth looking at. He only ever does enough. As Cliff Baker at Nicholls’ said ‘Big Bucks doesn’t even know how good Big Bucks is’!.

  6. whitearab says:

Can anyone tell me if any bookies are doing a bet on Big Bucks winning lengths today please and who is best odds? Not able to access Oddschecker at work!

  7. andy says:

    Daniel Edwards
    Thanks for your placepots choices.
seems like some good selections, though i do fancy super kenny in 2.35 & wishful thinking in 5.30.
    R. walsh on pistolet noir in 5.20 at 20-1?

  8. andy says:

    R.walsh 5.30!

  9. Croat Goat says:

    only 29 in Topham..shocked….massive withdrawals

At least Silver Birch won’t keep anyone out if getting in the National as reserve

  10. Daniel Edwards says:

Big Bucks is 13/8 under 4.5 lengths and 11/8 more than

Sporting Bet are the only firm I can see offering these odds, but im sure there must be others.

By the way – try for an odds comparison site other than oddschecker.

they have some good pundits and I found I could access that at a previous office, but not oddschecker.

I carried on working the pocahontas theory but it was taking me upto 45 minutes per horse and driving me mad and with the missus moaning i had to bail out.

I think i need to purchase a 12 generation pedigree system to speed things up for next year.
With regards comply or die there is information missing on his damline going back a few generations so it is impossible to give him a true reading.
I would be interested to see if the old system comes up trumps again this year i am not confident though !
Best of luck with your bets for the national

  13. Neil S says:

So bottom weight 10-5 then, good guess.

  14. Volty says:

Mccoy rides Dont Push It. Another National gone for him then!

  15. whitearab says:

Thanks Daniel and Brody. True Blog legends! tried that link Daniel and got ‘Blocked by Websence’ more is the pity! Big Bucks by 3 to 6 lengths at 3s or 4 to 10 lengths looks looks the one for me! Cheers guys.

  16. Superwinger says:

Back again. better late than never. Great to see a lot of the Old names still Blogging.

Just seen that Old timer Silver Birch has missed cut for the national. Now running at Aintree in different Race.

    Hi everyone,

please bring your comments to a close on this thread and move to the new main thread which I have just opened

    Thank you

Last second 200/1 NR in the Big Bucks race taking it from paying 3 places to paying 2 places for EW backers. Sometimes I hate this sport with all its blatant fiddling. Luckily for me saw it coming a mile off and backed Win only. Wonder how big the brown envelope was?

  19. Pablo says:

Yes it takes ages! Life is too short. Although I am intrigued by it all – just don’t know what it all means – if anything!?!

Found this on wiki – “Many stallions have had multiple crosses to Pocahontas, including: The Tetrarch (7), Man o’ War (9), Precipitation (27), Nearco (37), Raise A Native (175), Northern Dancer (272), Mr. Prospector(353) and Secretariat (249).”

Thinking about contacting pedigreequery (or similar) regarding the purchase of similar info for National horses. I think if you subscribe to their website you get 8/9 generations rather than the 5 you see as a non-subscriber, but still not ideal.

Having said that there isn’t time over the next few days with the greatest meeting on earth due to start in less than 90 mins.

    Good luck.

  20. whitearab says:

Brody – I am not sure that is right (re Big Bucks race). Time for Rupert brought the runners from 8 to 7 but he has been out of the race for more than 24 hours. It was all over the press yesterday.

  21. elliekak says:

Ricky Tomlinson dressed as a jockey and tipping Royal Rosa …. oh dear. think everyone has gone a little crazy this year.

  22. whitearab says:

By the way, when I nipped to the bookies at lunchtime I saw that Ollie Magern is 150/1 at Hills. In case anyone wants to avail themselves of that per a post above about him and meeting the key trends etc.

  23. baggy352 says:

well here it is – the final four

    1st arbor supreme
    2nd big fella thanks
    3rd mon mome
    4th irish raptor

  24. REDRUM says:

Interested to hear ap mccoy choosing don’t push it in the grand national over arbor supreme especially considering the weight don’t push it has to carry.

I have been a regular visitor to Cheltenham for many years and always take in the pre parade and parade rings.
It was common knowledge to paddock watchers that willie mullins horses were generally in a shocking state.
I know that was 3 weeks ago but i would still like to see snowy or arbor in the flesh before backing either of them.

  25. Brody says:

Whitearab: Time for Rupert overnight took it to 8 runners from 9 still paying three places, guy from Victor chandler was grumbling about ‘EW thieves’ in the first on Racing UK at 1pm, half an hour later 300/1 rag Silver token or sommit and thats priced out of 8 runners not 40, pulls out leaving only 2 places, with the trainer seen stuffing bulging brown envelope into his pocket in car park (that is a joke!). Seriously it sent Tidal from 5/1 to 15/2, and he had less opponents to beat, funny that…

  26. Ash says:

Does everyone believe that snowy mourning will have a chance of at least coming in the top 3?

I’m an ametur at this but I want to win this year!
