Grand National 2010: Early Special Bets
The early Grand National betting has been spiced up with the release of some ‘specials’ to whet the appetite – what are your thoughts on the offers below? Any value amongst these?
Stan James. are 11/4 that there is an Irish Trained Winner
Blue Square.are 7/1 that Paul Nicholls trains the winner
Tote.are 10/1 that Tony McCoy rides the winner
Stan James. are 7/4 that the winner carries more then 11 stone
I think the last offer from Stan James. should generate some comments given the amount the 11 stone mark was discussed last year. I wonder if we could convince them to offer a price that the Grand National winner carries UNDER 11 stone?

Last year I did Denman on Betfair hoping to trade off for a guarantee profit. However it didn’t work out. The money could have covered more bets included Mon Mome which I was considing backing but had too much on the race already.
I don’t think the’s any value at the moment, for instance:
10/1 for Tony McCoy to ride the winner, you probably can back his mount at those odds on the day anyway, and the national is an unlucky race for him. I will go on record about Tony that like Frankie in the Derby, if he’s on a horse with a decent chance then he will win. (If he’s not carried out, ouch, routing for him that year.)
Irish trained winner sounds promising and you are getting a collection of horses for that.
Winner to carry 11 stone or more, not really rather back an individual horse over 11 stone, if I thought that it had a chance.
I have done novalty bets but only if I think the’s a chance of coming up.
Done Greys when Suny Bay ran and women trainers when Esha Ness ‘won’. To be honest the women trainer one was linked to the Lincoln. The first leg came up the second is history so I thought its only right they should pay up.
My reasoning being if the first leg had lost I would have chuck the bet in the bin.

Looking at special bets for the national, here one that is most appealling. Its at Victor Chandler and its on Comply Or Die to be placed in Grand National at 9/1. If it was to win it might be poor value, but second to fourth place means it would have to be 40/1 to pay better and then you have to remember that your outlay is doubled (win bet, place only bet). However the no VC near me and I’ll wait until weights are published before betting.
