Problems With New Version Of Grand National Blog
Hi,
I understand some of you are having some issues with the new version of Grand National Blog.
I’d be grateful if you could list any problems you are having on this page and I will ask our technical people to look into the issues.
If you are having technical issues please list the type of browser you are using and the version (i.e. Internet explorer 7, Firefox 3.6 etc) and the type of system you are using (Windows XP etc).
I appreciate some of you are not happy that GN Blog has changed its look but we have had some technical issues with the old version when we gets lots and lots of traffic (we even had to take the blog down on Grand National day last year!) and the switch to this updated (and hopefully more efficient) software is designed to avoid further problems on those lines.
However, if any of you have productive comments you would like to make regarding the look of the new site please also add them here and I will pass them on.
Thanks
Darren
Admin

Two things that I miss from old version:
1. Number of posts in brackets after each thread in ‘Recdent posts’ section (top left) – at-a-glance view of most popular threads (useful for newcomers too)
2. Time of day next to the date above each post – especially useful where post contains breaking news, price changes etc

And if possible a number beside each post so that it is easy to refer back to previous posts

Time and day of each post is crucial I feel – without it it can take ages to find the last post you read.
Otehr than that, I quite like the new look blog. It works on my browser nicely and it’s easier on the eye overall.

From the other thread I understand there were some problems with:
Text size
No timing with each posts
Number of posts in recent threads
I’ve asked for these issues to be looked at.
Could people confirm what the issues are with the way the thread is displayed please i.e. last post to first or first to last, issues on hand helds, mobiles etc

Hi admin. The posts were previously split between pages of 50 but now it is one long thread of 600 posts. Not so much of an issue when on a computer but it makes using the site from a mobile phone impossible. This is the only way some of us can access the site on the sly, whilst we are at work. Thank you.

Layout very nice and neat – looks more professional. But as you are aware these points need addressing:
Text size
No timing with each posts
Number of posts in recent threads
Text size is an issue just too small for easy reading or for anyone over 40!
I am happy with the way you can scrool up or down the list of posts (but a limit of 500 would be wise) so long as we have a date or number attached to each post so you can find the one you are looking for.

Hi I storyboard websites, so hopefully I do know a little..
There are huge wastes of space with the new layout – big block strips of white space on either side – not using your page’s available space at all well. As a result the centre strip only is used and the text is tiny.
Post entries need to be numbered and timed.
Having all on one page tho is great.
Main issue is: use up all page to make text MUCH larger and not contained in one centre strip. Thanks

Admin, hows about adding a edit feature to the blog, so that once up the blogger has say 5 minutes to tidy up their message, in case the original draft was not what they wanted to print.
A few messages are corrections to previous blogs and I just thought it might save space.

Admin for your web team to increase the size of all the posts to fill the page more (tons of wasted white blocks of space either side of text) and thus make print much bigger into the bargain should be very simple?

thanks Darren for making a special thread here and thanks people for swift contributions.
I think everything has now been covered,
except maybe the striplight epileptic fit inducing effect of this white background.
Together with the small text pephaps and surrounding space seems to be making me feel sick, as I struggle to read. When I look away from the screen I feel a bit blinded, maybe we’ll all be fitting by race day, can’t be good… So mellow coloured background please, I liked the cheltenham sites background.
Thanks.

don’t get me wrong I like the fresh modernity,
Some seem to have no problem with it, but some of us are finding the experience unpleasant, maybe we are the borderline epilepsy/ migraine group, but its not making us feel well. sorry.

Hi,
I would hope the majority of problems have now been addressed: times, number of posts, text size and slight change of background colour.
Cheers
Darren
