    My five against the field

    Folsom blue 20/1 ew
    Westerner point 50/1 ew
    Tell us more 200/1 ew
    BellsHill 14/1 ew
    Jetstream Jack 50/1 ew

    Good Luck.

  4. Showlad says:

    Good afternoon all.

I can hardly remember our shortlist giving us so many options and even then you take your own call if there’s a stat or 2 out (as with Rogue Angel’s win).

My 5 against the field are:

KILARO BOY has a very Liberty Counsel feel for me and I have a sneaky feeling he may just come good today and loves winning in spring time at Fairyhouse ;) (nap)

ARKSWRISHT dripping with dark horse talent

  5. Irish Raider says:

    Monbeg Notorious
    Folsom Blue
    Thunder and Roses

    Good luck All!

  6. Pollyowls says:

    What on earth happened there..???

  7. Mike N says:

Bellshill was awesome up front for so long. Wd winners and placers.

  8. Seven Towers says:

    Bellshill cocked up Arkwrisht’s hopes.

  9. kj says:

well it sounded close, hope I can see the replay! well done if you picked the winner whoever won ;)

  10. Seven Towers says:

    WD winners

  11. kj says:

Useless commentator that irish bloke tho…..just hearing how much carnage their was.

  12. NTS says:

That was more like a demolition derby! Well done winners.

  13. welshpip says:

    General Principle (IRE)
    Forever Gold (IRE)
    Bellshill (IRE)

  14. Mike N says:

Matt Chapman talking like a ***** again.

  15. JJ says:

Agree KJ, that commentator is a chocolate teapot.
Thought Bellshill was gonna walk it until he got to the last.
Some hard luck stories in there too.
    Well done winners.

  16. Irish Raider says:

He’s right about Folsom Blue tho. Would have won only for Bellshills f**k up!

  17. Seven Towers says:

Never let it be said that Chapman never makes a bad situation even worse.

  18. daniel edwards says:

    General principle at 28/1

    Happy Easter to me

  19. Showlad says:

WD Daniel and to all who kept to their Principles ;)

  20. Pollyowls says:

Extraordinary finish… not quite sure that form’s worth a deal… but there were some very brave horses in that
Bellshill has run an absolute blinder… didn’t do Arkwrisht or Folsom Blue any favours at the last.
Thought I’d got it with Isleofhopendreams – but he made a couple of mistakes too many on the way round.
So Elliott’s scattergun approach worked… that should be the trainers title wrapped up now
Well done to all winners – Corbs good shout with Forever Gold…

  21. sling-shot03 says:

Well done winners and places Folsom blue I think would’ve won gutted I had it in a nice double with Tiger roll for the Grand National as well :(

  22. Mike N says:

No one knows for sure if Folsom Blue wudve won because Arkwrisht got taken out too. May have been a head bobber.

  23. kj says:

Gutted to here my tip too Folsom was stopped by the horse I still think should have gone to aintree!
Luck with you then Daniel! sounds like when I got stuck in the middle of knowhere when electric hire car key decided to stop working last night and 5hrs and no help later a taxi for 150quid was demanded by a french woman on our behalf,.. I suppose I should of thought about ‘general principle’ of any service in this god forsaken place!!Q!! haha lets hope they pay me back the idyuts!
    oh off to watch it!

  24. welshpip says:

At last, a win in the national, got 33/1 with BV this week, on general, principle, also had Bellshill, and topped up on Forever Gold,
£40 outlay £332.00 profit , thats my pennies for ThE BIG ONE NOW
Thank you all, it was your research and observations that lead me

  25. Mike N says:

Sean Flanagan ride was amusing he nearly gets brought down by the stablemate out wide then decides to go down the inside instead and looks like he gets brought down there instead. :)

  26. welshpip says:

    Folsom blue 4th
    bellshill 5th

  27. welshpip says:

Good job i cashed out :)

  28. daniel edwards says:

Old adage is if they finish in a line the form can be questionable

First 5 here 2 lengths apart

  29. Corbiere says:

Wow brill finish, very exciting, but 2nd, 3rd, 4th & 5th from 5 picks, bit gutted, to not have won with all those chances coming to last.
Think Folsom would have won, but for the lunacy at the last. Watched it a dozen times and he virtually came to a standstill, then made up about 15 lengths, to lose by less than 2.
Checked my winnings & losses, ended up a tenner up.
Very pleased with Forever Gold, not often you tip up a 50/1 shot who got so close.
    As usual enjoyed the crack.
WELL DONE WINNERS, Daniel, Penguin, Major, Lucky & Welshpip and anybody I forgotten, apologies.

  30. kj says:

Yep I think Folsom would of won too, Arkwrisht winded/ knocked for six by that side swipe, he landed still 2nd at the last, don’t think he would of won myself… Folsolm still finished like a train! I think Bellshill was trying to refuse? ran on after. Rest of the race hard to tell whose who ;) mud… gigginstown…

  31. moari says:

    Happy with my Ew
on forever gold, means I am up on my bets out

  32. Lucky Vane2 says:

Got Outlander 25/1 EW with Paddys quarter odds and 4 places.

Will add Bellshill at 9/1 with William Hill (Win)

and Call It Magic 40/1 EW with Boylesport, fifth of odds and 6 places.

Added General Principal & Jetstream Jack to the 3 I’ve backed already for this.

    Decided to add Mall Dini

    Nice little earner. :)

Had GP at 28/1 with Unibet (Stan James no longer in operation).

Now for the big one, but seriously I’m going for 4 in a row so suspect that I won’t pick the winner a week on Saturday.

  33. kj says:

Bellshill DQ one place? thats weird isn’t it?

  34. Corbiere says:

I actually thought that was a brave and correct call by Irish stewards, presumably it’s about the prize money, as it was obvious Bellshill caused interference which badly affected Folsom Blue.

  35. Corbiere says:

Lucky explain 4 in a row, is that National’s you mean ?

  36. Lucky Vane2 says:

Now for the big one, but seriously I’m going for 4 in a row so suspect that I won’t pick the winner a week on Saturday.

Yes I do mean the Grand National ran at Aintree

In the past the best I’ve had was three in any decade, Corbs.

1970′s I had Red Rum (1977 win only), but that was 50p EW put on by my late Dad, whose birthday it would have been today.

1980′s I had Grittar, Hello Dandy and West Tip

1990′s I had Mr Frisk and Earth Summit

2000′s I had Amberleigh House and Silver Birch

2010′s Mainly due to this blog I had Many Clouds, Rule The World and One For Arthur.

As you can see I fully expect my luck to turn.

  37. Lescargot says:

Well done to all that backed the winner. Here’s an interesting betting point. I backed 6. One of my selections was Arkwrisht, which I backed on the 31/3/18 ew at 25/1 5P at a 1/4 odds with Bet365.If I had of waited until last night/the day of the race I would have got 6P at 25/1 1/4 and as a result bumped up my returns considerably. It has taught me a lesson re: the GN, I have a couple or so to back and will now wait until the night before.

  38. Mike N says:

My bookie paid out on Bellshill despite the demotion.

  39. billymag says:

Most bookies first crossed the line (or 4th!)

  40. JJ says:

That can be a bit hit and miss at times as a lot of bookies will clip the price in when offering an extra place, understand your frustration though. I think if its a bigger priced horse you’re better to wait for the extra place ‘offer’.

And by coincidence, today marks the day of Red Rum’s 3rd win :-)

  41. daniel edwards says:

Folsom Blue a very rare example of a horse still improving at 11

  42. NTS says:

Bit harsh on Sean Flanagan on Snow Falcon to be described by RP as UR rather than BD absolutely nowhere to go with the faller – think Snow Falcon is due a change of luck and looks like my cliff horse for the future.

  43. Tomboy says:

Thanks for the pointers everyone. I got my first ever national winner at 40/1 and Forever Gold 3rd at 50/1. Only had four horses and 3 of them finished in top 6 all at 40/1+

I have a double on General principle and tiger roll and another on general principle and final nudge. Bring on Aintree!

    Thanks again
