Willie Mullins’ assault on the Grand National 2011 was cut down to three probable challengers after the news was released today that Our Monty has picked up an infection and would definitely miss the race. This leaves The Midnight Club, Arbor Supreme and Dooneys Gate to carry the flag for the stable that won the Grand National with Hedgehunter in 2005.
The defection of Our Monty is good news for Howard Johnson in that his Royal Rosa will now definitely make the big race. Nervously waiting at number forty-two is Nicky Richards’ Skippers Brig. The Richards yard will be waiting to hear on updates regarding Roll Along and Northern Alliance both of whom have been the subject of last minute fitness scares.
Waiting at number forty-three is Adrian Maguire’s Golden Kite who has been the subject of some positive reports and would be a live outsider if he were to make the race.
