Grand National: Dates For Your Diary
I thought it might be a good idea to have a reference page for all the important dates/races that could have a bearing on the Grand National. I’ll put down a few ideas of races that we might want to have on the list and then open it up to you guys for suggestions. I will also add the various forfeit/closing dates for the Grand National itself and then keep bouncing this article up the menu so it stays fresh and in the five articles currently on view. I have updated the list and added some other dates that may be useful:

The important dates as far as the entries for the 2010 Grand National have been updated below (Thanks to Gammers for the info):
Entries close noon on Feb 2nd.
Weights announced Feb 16th.
First Forfeit Stage noon on Mar 2nd.
2nd Forfeit Stage noon on Mar 23rd.
Confirmation stage April 5th.
Final Decs April 8th.
Race Day April 10th.

Any Class 1 chase over 3m+ and Class 2 over 3m4f should be of interest to anyone looking for National clues. A couple worth putting on the radar would be:
Cheltenham PaddyPower Meeting – C1 Gd3 3m3f Hcap Chase
Cheltenham December – C1 Listed 3m1f Hcap Chase
Sandown December – C2 3m6f London National
The two Cheltenham races have thrown up quite a few National runners in recent years. Mon Mome won the latter race last season and My Will has won the 3m3f race in the past. Comply or Die ran in both races last season.
The 3m6f London National was first staged last season and attracted horses like Kilbeggan Blade, Rambo and Bowleaze. With hindsight this may not be a classy enough contest to throw up national clues but it’s too early too write-off as a National trial after one season.

I’ve not much really to add, yet, to this thread but I will go over what I put on the Galway Plate thread.
1 Anthony Mildmay / Peter Cazalet Memorial Chase (AKA) London National at Sandown.
2 Ritz Club Trophy Handicap Chase (AKA) William Hill Handicap ran at Cheltenham Festival.

For me the clues for the national used to start with the hennessy and that’s on November 28
