Grand National Entries 2009
123 horses were entered for the 2009 Grand National yesterday and the Aintree field looks set to include a host of top class horses.
Gold Cup winners Denman and War of Attrition have been entered, along with recent Lexus Chase winner Exotic Dancer and Paddy Power Gold Cup hero Imperial Commander.
Last year’s Grand National winner Comply Or Die is back to defend his crown along with the second and third from last year’s race, King Johns Castle and Snowy Morning, both of whom had previously been suggested as doubtful runners by their connections. King Johns Castle had looked to be out for the season but has reportedly responded well to treatment and is now back on course for Aintree.
A total of 123 horses have been entered which is a surprisingly low total considering there were 150 at this stage last year.

Biggest surprise omission is Mr Pointment. Touted by many but without an entry. Ante post favourite at one point last year.

When Rough Quest won in ’96 the race was run on the last Saturday in March.
As for this year, seeing as Kilbeggan Blade beat him at Sandown in December conceding him weight, Rambling Minster is shocking value in comparison for the big race carrying 2lbs more than KB this time
