Grand National 2009: Cheltenham Festival Entries
The Cheltenham Festival begins in just over a week’s time but the burning question for Grand National fans is how will our ante post fancies fare during the four days at Prestbury Park?
Most of the runners highlighted on our site have entries at some point over the Cheltenham Festival and the performances of horses such as Butlers Cabin, Comply Or Die, Hot Weld and Garde Champetre especially will be particularly interesting.
Below is a full list of all the horses featured on our Grand National site who have entries at Cheltenham. Make a note of your selections and let us know how you invisage it will perform in its chosen race:

Obviously we are getting down to the real decision making time for those of us who have still to make up our minds about who we will be backing at Aintree and an eyecatching performance here could make all the difference so watch out for the Grand National market to pick up speed during the four days at Cheltenham.
Do you think there is any value left in the current prices? Should we take a certain price before your pick runs at Cheltenham? Let us know your Cheltenham related thoughts on this page.
Also, why not check out our Cheltenham Betting site where we look at all the individual races and have lots of information and tips on all things Cheltenham related. There are also details of our Cheltenham tipping competition where you could win the first prize of £500! We’d love to see all our great Grand National contributors trying to win this prize!

This separate thread is a great idea.
Cheltenham is always a funny one when it comes to the Aintree horses. If you’re on a horse AP, you want to see it run well but at the same time not have too hard a race just a few weeks before the big day. I always liked the Racing Post Plate/Mildmay of Flete as a pre-National prep as it’s over 2m4f, which is over 1/2m shorter than the William Hill. A race over 2m4f is never going to be as much of a test as the William Hill or Gold Cup and a nice staying-on performance to finish just outisde the places catches the eye. I will be watching Golden Flight in that with a lot of interest.
I quite like the look of Always Waining at massive odds for the National so if he’s in the final decs at Cheltenham I may back him before he runs. His form this year isn’t great but he much prefers spring ground so i’m hoping for better if he runs at Cheltenham.

If you have got money on Butlers Cabin for the national then what type of race do you want it to have at cheltenham?
I have some money on him for the GN and the more i think about cheltenham i just cant work out what type of run i want him to have.

Hi Guys,Butlers Cabin must get a run in before the national and you will have to hope it gets good ground as the trainer will be relucdant to run it on soft ground.

This may help when informing Cheltenham bets and gauging how the National entries may fair:

Brian,
Click on the link below and scroll down a bit and there are links to the going and met office. It isn’t being updated at the moment but closer to the time i’m sure there will be daily updates.

Absolutely Brian. Simon Claisse always seems to claim that the Cheltenham going is “on the easy side of good” no matter what the ACTUAL conditions are! Last year he gave the going description on the first day as good-soft but the times and jockey comments showed the ground was geniunely soft. I don’t trust him so need to get the going info from another source.
It’s also useful for Aintree as the course is very big and normally the ground down by the Canal Turn is sofer than the rest of the course.

Lothian Falcon a non-runner, so 2/3 aint at all bad!!

What a load of tosh is written in the blog,as a winner in the last 6 gns,i can honestly say ive cracked the code, its simple 9/10 yr old having run between 25-50 days finihing well over more than 3.5 miles carrying a big weight in to at least a place, yet carrying 10.10 or less in the national, getting the ground it likes. This year in order of preferance it will be between Rambling minster, Garde champetre, Darkness and Black appalachi.Granted black apalachi does not fit the criterea to win but will run into a place.GAZ.

firstly has there been a new grand national tips thread started as on my screen the old one is now empty??? secondly BC and CB now with only 23 days between last run and GN?? is this significant ?

March 15th, 2009 11:19
Hi Dragonman,A 23 day break before the race is ok but anything that runs from 2mrw onwards you can put a line thru.Your selection should have a top 7 place on its last run so with that you can knock Preists Leap off your list if you have it.Im still only have 1 winner in my book and thats Rambling Minster and the horses i’ve had savers on have holes in there form i.e Southern Vic and Black Apalachi.

EXOTIC DANCER, FOR THE NATIONAL[?} THE DRAWBACK IS A.P. McCOY.....MAD I THINK NOT.. THIS RACE IS A.P.s "JINX" RACE?...THE PLODDING STYLE OF EXOTIC DANCER WILL SUIT THE NATIONAL...[OR AT LEAST THATS HOW HE`S BEEN RIDDEN]..NOW I HAVE POSTED THIS..E/C WON`T RUN OR WON`T WIN, ONE LESS TO WORRY ABOUT…..LOOK FOR THE FAIRY STORY HORSE..????e.g. OWNER BACK FROM REHAB, DOWN TO HIS LAST 50ml…TRAINER, SAYS “IT`S ALL DOWN TO SOUTHERN COMFORT”…..ON A ENDING NOTE…COULD THIS YEARS NATIONAL BE WON BY A “LADY RIDER” [YOU`VE SEEN HER IT`S NEENA]….ADIOS….
